About Peregrine Falcons
The peregrine falcon is a bird of Prey and is the fastest animal in the world reaching up to 322 km/h (200 mph). It is a crow-sized falcon, which has a blue/grey back with white underparts and a black head. Peregrine falcons diet consists of medium sized birds such as pigeons and will occasionally hunt small mammals, small reptiles and sometimes insects. The female Peregrine falcon is larger than the male.
A Peregrine falcon will stay with its mate for life and live on cliff edges although nowadays Peregrines can be seen nesting on tall man-made structures. Due to pesticides such as DDT, peregrine falcons became an endangered species but today the population is recovering due to protection and the banning of some pesticides. Peregrines hunt during dawn or dusk and will prey on many migratory birds as well as medium sized birds.
